Dear Sir

For fear you should imagine I have run away with y[ou]r books, I'll tell you that I am so far from running away now, that I must crawl like a snail, for a violent fall upon my posterior which occasioned a pain in so useful a part. Pray let me know what you have done with the said books, & what I owe for 'em and the sending supposing, they have been sent with the last waggon. I am with a real estim d[ea]r Sir y[ou]r most humble and obedient servant Clairaut.

July the 26^th at Hamptoncourt in Middlesex.

I should be glad to know, if Dr Bevis has returned M[onsieu]r d'Alembert's last theory.
