Chronologie de la vie de Clairaut (1713-1765)

(8 novembre) 28 octobre 1736 : À la Royal Society :
An extract of a letter from M[onsieu]r Celsius to Dr. Mortimer, dated from the mountain of Korpicula in Lapland in the latitude of 66:8' dated July 1 1736.

He says they arrived at the place he writes from on the day of the solstice, when they saw part of the Sun above the horizon at midnight ; and they have had a continued day ever since to this 1st July 1736 and that they cannot see any stars but by means of glasses. He makes mention of the Rene Deer [rennes !] as being very frequent in those parts, and that they are much pestered with gnats.

Thanks were order'd (RS, JBC 15, pp. 375-376).
